Why Maternl is important

Maternl was created by an academic obstetrician. For his entire career, he has cared for the physical nd emotional health of mothers, babies and families. Maternl is one of a kind. It uses AI as a helper within an ethical and altruistic framework, shaped by many years of experience and caring.

Maternl is here for you if:

  • You do not know where to get care for your pregnancy or your new baby, or you cannot get it
  • You feel alone, left out or unsafe
  • You have been treated unfairly in your care because of your race
  • You do not understand what is happening in your pregnancy or with your baby, and you need a doctor, midwife or clinic who can explain it
  • You do not have someone to speak up for you
  • You have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or after birth, and you need support

Our goal

Every woman and every family, everywhere, should be able to get healthcare-including pregnancy, maternity and newborn care. Maternl works to close the gaps that keep families from the care they need. It works in your language, in countries all over the world, and helps you find a center for care wherever you are.

Maternl helps you find care for your pregnancy and your new baby.

Maternl uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help you find nearby centers for prenatal, maternity and newborn care, and groups that can support you. It shows them on a map, gives directions, and can make a letter of introduction for your visit. Maternl is for finding care and support only. It does not give medical advice or health information, and it does not answer questions about symptoms. Please keep these points in mind:
  • Maternl is not to be used for medical advice.
  • The list of places is a starting point. It may not fit your personal health needs.
  • Maternl does not ask for your name or any personal health details, and does not replace advice, diagnosis, or treatment from a doctor.
  • No doctor-patient relationship. Using this tool does not make you a patient or create a medical relationship.
  • Talk to your provider. Always ask your OB/GYN, midwife, pediatrician, or another qualified provider if you have questions about your health or your baby.
  • There are limits to AI. The list may sometimes be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Centers of care and support that we find may no longer be open or available. Please call before you go.
  • Emergencies. If you think you or your baby has a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room right away. For mental health help, call or text 988.
  • Privacy. Maternl never asks for your name and does not keep your IP address or browser details with anything you do. Your connection is encrypted, but your internet or phone provider can still see that you visited this site. If your safety depends on privacy, turn on private mode below and read the Privacy page.

Privacy

Maternl never asks who you are. This page explains, plainly, what is kept, what is not, and what no website can hide — so you can decide how to use it safely.

If your safety depends on privacy

  1. Open Maternl in a private browsing window (on iPhone: Safari → Tabs → Private). Your browser then keeps no history of the visit.
  2. Turn on private mode below. Maternl's cookies are deleted when you close the browser, Google's page translator is switched off, and a red Exit button appears on every page.
  3. Use Exit (or press Esc twice on a keyboard) to leave instantly. It opens a weather search and ends your visit on our server.
  4. If someone may check your network, the Tor Browser hides which sites you visit from your internet provider.

What we never ask for

Your name, address, phone number, date of birth, email, or any medical record number. There are no accounts. A sponsor code only says which organisation gave you access; it says nothing about you.

The contact form asks for an email address only if you want a reply, and it is optional.

What we keep

  • Sponsor reports. When a sponsor code or QR code is used: the code, the date and time, the language and the country you chose, and what happened (for example, a scan or a care search). No IP address, no browser or device details.
  • Country counts. The country you chose and when. No IP address, browser details or session number.
  • Usage counts. Which features are used, in which language and country, and the general kind of care searched for (such as “prenatal care”), grouped under a random number that lasts one visit. Never the words you typed.

What we do not keep

  • What you type or say. To find care, your search is sent from our server to the AI services we use (OpenAI and Perplexity). They see our server, not you or your IP address. We do not save the words you type or say.
  • Your location. “Use my location” sends your position to our server once, to find the town name, and it is not stored. Map squares and driving routes are fetched by our server too, so outside map services never see your IP address next to the place you are looking at. A care search is remembered by place name, so the next person searching the same town gets the list faster — it is not linked to you.
  • A diagnosis on the pregnancy loss page. It is held only for your visit and never appears in the web address, your browser history or our server logs. “Reset form” clears it.

Our web host

Like every website, our hosting company keeps standard server logs for a limited time. These include IP addresses and the pages requested. We have made sure the pages requested never contain what you type, your diagnosis or your location. The host is in the United States and can be required by law to share what it holds.

On your phone or computer

  • Cookies. A few small technical cookies remember your language, your country, your sponsor code and that you have signed in. No advertising or tracking cookies. In private mode they are deleted when you close the browser.
  • Pregnancy Tools. Due dates, kick counts and contraction times are saved only in this browser, never sent to us. Erase removes them.
  • Browser history. Ordinary browsing keeps a list of the pages you opened. A private window does not. No website can remove history that is already there.

Erase removes everything Maternl keeps in this browser, including Pregnancy Tools entries and the offline app copy, and signs you out.

Outside services your browser may contact

  • Google Translate, when a language other than English is chosen and private mode is off. It receives the page text and your IP address. In private mode it is not used.
  • Maps apps (Google Maps or Apple Maps), only when you tap Directions.
  • WhatsApp, email or your share sheet, only when you choose to share.
  • Telephone or support links such as 211, only when you tap them.

Fonts, icons, flags and the map software are served from our own site, so loading a page does not tell any outside company you are here.

What no website can hide

Your connection to Maternl is encrypted, so no one in between can read what you search for or the places we find. But your internet or phone provider — and anyone who controls that network — can see that your device connected to maternl.com, and when. The Tor Browser or a trusted VPN hides that.
